High tide under a fence and bench at the Durham Town Landing on a gloomy day during a King Tide

The Town of Durham, in partnership with SRPC, developed a comprehensive master plan chapter exclusively for climate change and coastal hazards. This chapter includes the most current climate science and adaptation guidance from climate scientists and experts; a broad spectrum of potential climate-related impacts; local risks, hazards, and vulnerabilities to Durham; and a prioritized list of actions intended to assist the Town’s policy- and decision-makers address climate issues through focused preparation and planning. The development of this chapter included an extensive outreach campaign, which included in-person and virtual workshops, surveys, and a video, that encouraged broad participation by local stakeholders and community members.

As of June 14th, 2023, the Durham Planning Board has adopted the Climate Adaptation Chapter as part of the Town’s Master Plan.
