Dover Urban Street Tree Inventory and Plan

Streets trees along Central Avenue is downtown Dover

The development of the Central Business District Street Tree Plan implements Action Item #45 in Dover’s Natural Resources Master Plan chapter. The project included a comprehensive inventory and analysis of existing street trees within the CBD, followed by the development of recommendations for future tree plantings, cost-effective structural measures for stormwater, and best management practices for addressing invasive species. The plan includes information on the value of street trees, the street tree inventory, management guidelines and implementation schedule, and a summary of City-wide GIS-based canopy cover and socio-economic data assessment. Street trees are an important part of Dover’s urban forest and provide many social and ecological benefits such as: cooling the urban environment, providing habitat, aiding in stormwater management, and capturing air pollutants.
