Dover Stormwater Installation and Public Outreach

Stormwater infrastructure being installed in Dover

Funding provided by the NHDES Coastal Program, through a Resilience Municipal Planning Grant, allowed the City of Dover and SRPC to develop an urban street plan for the Central Business District (CBD); revise the City’s Complete Streets Policy; and provide education on successful green infrastructure approaches to stormwater management. The City’s education campaign included the installation of a stormwater retrofit downtown; a video documenting the installation process; and an organized tour of the Berry Brook watershed.
To improve public outreach around stormwater, Dover City Media Services created a video including footage of the project team implementing a low-cost, low-maintenance stormwater management system on a curbside downtown. The team installed a drainage basin that treats stormwater and filters sediment and debris while providing water to the network of tree roots below. The video also includes interviews with City staff about Dover’s climate adaptation and resilience in planning and developing stormwater management plans and designs. Public outreach concluded with a tour of Berry Brook Watershed for policy and decision-makers from neighboring communities to highlight and discuss the City’s stormwater management projects.
