Brookfield

One of two SRPC communities in Carroll County, Brookfield is the least populated town in the Strafford region as well as one of the smallest in the State. Brookfield, formerly part of Middleton, was successfully incorporated as its own town in late 1794 drawing the boundary between the two towns through the Moose Mountains. Brookfield took on a small agricultural economy and has remained a rural community since. The town, along with its neighboring settlements, benefited from the construction of the Governor John Wentworth Road that ran from Portsmouth to his summer home on Lake Wentworth in Wolfeboro and other getaways. Brookfield is home to the former Moose Mountain ski area, now the Moose Mountain Recreation Area, which is now open for disc golf, tubing, snowmobiling and more.
