Watershed Planning
Overview
Through the development of a watershed management plan, SRPC can provide technical assistance to communities that are seeking to address water quality problems in local lakes and ponds. A watershed management plan, which will meet the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requirements for a nine-element plan, will set water quality goals aimed at improving lake water quality, reducing toxic algal blooms, and achieving a significant reduction of phosphorus loading. SRPC utilizes a watershed planning process that includes a series of cooperative, iterative steps to characterize existing watershed conditions, identify and prioritize problems, define management objectives, develop protection or remediation strategies, and implement and adapt selected actions, as necessary.
