The most recent Listing of Obligated Projects was uploaded on Dec. 30. The Annual Listing of Obligated Projects is a requirement from the federal government's current transportation laws and regulations document, FAST Act (Fixing America's Surface Transportation). The federal government defines obligated projects as the federal government's legal commitment (promise) to pay or reimburse the states or other entities for the federal share of a project's eligible costs.
Projects include federal highway, public transportation, pedestrian walkways, and bicycle facilities projects. Projects receiving federal funds often take several years to complete. Each year, MPOs report on the total amount of federal funds that were obligated during the preceding fiscal year.
