SRPC’s Bob Jaffin: Gardener Extraordinaire
Bob Jaffin, SRPC Commissioner, is a man of many talents. Not only is he a professor teaching multiple online classes, an author with published works, and a public safety expert, he is a self-proclaimed gardener with an eye for landscape gardening design. For the past seven years both Bob and his wife Laine have been proudly working on creating a beautifully manicured outdoor area surrounding their rural residence in Rochester.
SRPC staff recently paid the Jaffins a visit, learning about the diligent work they have done to transform their five acre lot. Gardening features include a full garden out in front of their home, bordered by native rocks transported from Chesley Hill Road in Rochester. In the back yard the white fence is surrounded by a border of perennials in monochromatic shades of purples from Clematis to Veronica.
Additionally, the Jaffin’s fruit and vegetable garden is definitely a sight to see. Fruit crops include succulent strawberries growing from raised beds, melons, grapes, raspberries, and pear, nectarine, peach, and cherry trees. For vegetables, the Jaffins grow asparagus, lettuce, tomatoes, chives, squash, and zucchini. The choice to engage in sustainable practices is definitely a great practice, and works well for the Jaffins as they provide themselves with fruit and vegetables during the spring and summer. SRPC would like to congratulate Bob and Laine for their sustainable practices, and their dedicated work to keep their gardens green and growing.
