“Smart” Alternatives for Seacoast Commuters

css

CommuteSMART Seacoast is an organization on a mission to connect alternative transportation options and seacoast commuters. Commute SMART is a Transportation Management Association described as a “non-profit, member –controlled organization that provides transportation services in a particular area[1]”. Employers sign up as members and employees receive free access to a database of other member commuters. The eye catching design of the website allows users to find matches for carpooling, transit, bicycle and Park n Rides with an option for single trip carpooling. The mapping feature uses the member’s commute information to show the commute possibility match for other forms of transportation. Users create a personal profile to keep track of commutes and calculate savings.

CommuteSMART is more than a ride matching service, the organization advocates for regional transportation issues by closing the gap between transportation options in New Hampshire and those driving to work alone. Other services include workshops, consultation, and emergency ride home, events such as Bike to “Work Week” and “Try Transit Week” along with many others. The site also offers an Employer Telecommute Toolkit. Commute SMART Seacoast goes to every length to help commuters get to work using alternative forms of transportation.  Strafford Regional Planning Commission is a registered member and staff are already carpooling biking/walking to work when feasible.

Employers can contact Anne Rugg, the Transportation Management Association Manager at arugg@commuteSMARTseacoast.org.
