Shayna Sylvia

Name: Shayna Sylvia

How long have you worked for SRPC? Six and a half years.

Where did you go to college and what did you graduate with? I went to college at the University of New Hampshire and earned a Bachelor of Art in Communications. I also earned a certificate in digital design and animation from Great Bay Community College in 2017.

What is your role here at SRPC? I am the Communications and Outreach Planner. I manage our social media and e-communications, do graphic design and layout for SRPC reports, coordinate Commission volunteers, and plan and execute Commission meetings.

What’s one of your favorite projects or things that you’ve done while at SRPC? I would say that my favorite thing has been exploring graphic design, document layout and the effect it has on readability and digestion rates. I also enjoy creating logos to better identify and reach out to the public about certain projects. I recently started a project where I am working with CommuteSMART New Hampshire to market and create outreach for a statewide commuter challenge. I like that I get to integrate my communications and design skills to help brand the challenge and engage potential participants.

What’s your favorite thing about working for SRPC? My co-workers and the volunteers we get to work with. People have such varied backgrounds and areas of expertise and everyone brings something different to the table.

Share a picture of a place, or past-time that you would use to describe your “happy place.”

What’s your favorite food? Mashed potatoes, any time, any place; hot or cold. Sometimes with hot sauce! Buffalo chicken tenders are a close second.

Your house is on fire, what’s the one thing you grab? Definitely my memory boxes, where I keep a bunch of sentimental items. Those would be irreplaceable.

Where did you grow up and one thing you love about that area? Rochester, MA. And for those that don’t know (because a lot of people don’t!) it’s in southeastern Massachusetts before the entry to the Cape! I loved growing up there because I was close to most of my extended family and close to the beach (10 min!).

What song would you choose to start a dance party? September by Earth, Wind and Fire.

Name three movies that you could watch over and over? National Treasure, That Awkward Moment and Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.

What accomplishment are you most proud of? Climbing Mount Chocorua when I was waist deep in snow for most of the hike, and then it hailed at the top, but I made it!

What’s your most used gif/emoji?

Where is your top wishlist travel destination? Santorini, Greece

Go to ice-cream flavor? It used to be mint chocolate chip for years, but lately I go with ginger ice-cream with gummy bears!

Favorite quote or song lyric? I have two, and they are both by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

“And so, with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer.”

“Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.”
