Climate Change Bus Tour – Portsmouth, NH
Last Tuesday (August 13), the South Mill Pond in Portsmouth was the site of the 21-state “I Will Act on Climate Change” bus tour, organized to highlight adverse impacts on communities and drum up support for state and local officials to take action. The message was clear in that it would be the responsibility of states throughout the country to take the lead on the issue of climate change; and New Hampshire would be joining efforts with our surrounding New England neighbors in creating the path towards change.
Among those who addressed the crowd were state Sens. Martha Fuller Clark, D-Portsmouth, Nancy Stiles, R-Hampton, and David Watters, D-Dover — all of whom have been supporters of environmental causes. Sen. Watters was the lead sponsor of a bill, which was signed into law this week that would create a coastal risk and hazards commission to investigate measures the state can take. SRPC staff member, Kyle Pimental will have the opportunity to be a part of this commission, which was established to recommend legislation to prepare for projected sea level rise and other coastal and coastal watershed hazards.
